Norway: Live poker tournaments authorized from 2015
For the great happiness of fanatics of poker in Norway, the country is finally going to authorize the organization of live poker tournaments from 2015; and this, thanks to the Minister of Culture, Thorhild Widvey. However, some restrictions are imperative. For example, there is the prohibition of organizing events endowed with too high buy-in and prizepool. The tournaments should also be held in land-based casinos or clubs operating legally. From 2015 thus, a Norwegian city could be elected as host of the Norwegian Championship. Let us note that the edition 2014 of this event is planned to take place at the Hotel Citywest Conference Leisure and Golf Resort in Dublin, in Ireland, from March 5th to 13th of this year.
Norwegian players of poker should still wait one year before having the privilege to play at home. They are still obliged to move to be able to participate in a major live tournament. However, they are numerous who have a distinguished career. Annette Obrestad is among them, reputed for her victory in the World Poker Series Of Poker Europe at the age of 18, Elisabeth Hill who finished 11th during the Main event of the WSOP 2012, the holder of two WSOP bracelets Thor Hansen, as well as Johny Lodden, a great professional of online poker who has won the second place of the tournament Limit HoldÂ’em at $2,000 + $100 of the Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure 2014. All these stars have left their country to be able to devote to their passion for poker and live their dream.
