An anti-igaming addiction process is under construction - France
Internet-based gambling, online poker included, is one of the webs most liked activities that generate a real craze among gamblers. Though poker can be described as a pure hobby, it is a form of gambling that some individuals easily become addicted. Excessive exposure to gambling actually increases the risk of addiction, debt, fraud and social dislocation as well. In April, Frances Observatory of Gaming Activities ODJ (Observatoire Des Jeux) announced that the number of problem gamblers in France remained stable since 2010, about 200,000 individuals. However, it highlighted that the number of at-risk gamblers rose by 60%. To tackle gambling addiction, Frances Ministry of Finance recently decided to establish a playing-time moderation system.
To this end, the Secretary of State for Budget, Christian Eckert, actually plans to discuss a playing-time moderation proposal in the upcoming parliamentary session. It would be a complementary system to the existing moderators of wagering. As stated on the current gambling report, young people aged 15 to 17 years-old are increasingly attracted to gambling, with an under-age out of three wagers on scratch games once a year despite the official ban, says Eckert. The Ministry of Finance is also poised to ease the judicial proceedings conducted by the French Regulatory Authority of Online Gaming (ARJEL) to shut illegal poker rooms down. Christian Eckert also announced the launch of a website that will focus on self-assessment of the risk of gambling addiction. Evalujeu.fr is the web platform on which every gambler can receive advice on how to fight against online betting addiction in general.
