Damien Cayet is the Man of the event - New Caledonia Poker Open 2015
From March 21 to 30, the whole New Caledonias eyes were on the New Caledonia Poker Open 2015, a 908 buy-in event held in the poker room of Grand Casino, Noumea. Fruitful was his run for Damien Cayet. From March 28 to 31, he battled it out for an eventual 6,250,000 francs of prize, nearly $AUD 73,000 or 51,800. Note that the Main Event features two starting days for a total of 251 entrants. Day 1A actually attracted 91 participants (Damien Cayet included), 30 of whom would make it through Day 2 battle. Day 2 saw 74 runners, all in the hunt for the title. 9 of those 74 contenders entered the final table. Ben Benoit, the 3rd-place finisher in the 2014 WSOP $ 1,500 Dealer Choice, was part of them.
Damien Cayet, whose online nickname is "Skualos", used to be a Aviation Club de France regular. This year, he managed to include his name among the 9 finalists of the televised poker festival New Caledonia Poker Open. Justin Walch (9th) was the first to hit the rail, and was shortly followed by Christopher Cayrey (8th), Daryl Hussey (7th), Michael O'Grady (6th), Olivier Bonnace (5th), Jerome Grau (4th), Jarred Graham (3rd) and Ben Benoit (2nd). The final showdown was a tough one for Damien who entered the clash with 1.6 million in chips against Ben Benoits 2.1 million. Highly skilled as he is, Damien came out with 350,000 chips in the middle of the face-to-face battle to eventually crush his ultimate opponent.
