Andrew Lichtenberger claims the first-place award - WPT Alpha8 Las Vegas
While Mohsin Charania first-placed the World Poker Tour Five Diamond World Poker Classic Main Event, Andrew Lichtenberger has just topped the 55-player field of the World Poker Tour Alpha8 at Bellagio, Las Vegas, to claim the title. Famously known as "Lucky Chewy", the online poker guru cashes $ 2,104,245 of the $ 5,395,500 prize pool generated by the field of 55 participants. The $ 100,000 buy-in event held in the poker room of Bellagio saw the participation of notable names such as Daniel Colman, Dan Smith, Erik Seidel, Antonio Esfandiari, Scott Seiver, JC Tran, Brandon Steven, Phil "Unabomber" Laak and Jason Mercier. Surprisingly enough, none of them managed to reach the final table (of six).
Hitting the rail first was Bryn Kenney (6th place); despite all this, he walked away with $ 323,730 of prize. Jason Les fell at the 5th place for $ 431,640; a few hands later, he was joined by Noah Schwartz (4th, $ 539,550) and Brian Rast (3rd, $ 755,370). The heads-up saw the clash between Andrew Lichtenberger and Tom Marchese. They exchanged the chip-count lead so many times before Lichtenberger wrapped the day up as a winner. Falling to the 2nd place, the World Poker Tour Alpha8 Main Event awards Tom Marchese a consolation prize of $ 1,240,965. After this freshly completed stop in Las Vegas, next up for the WPT Alpha8 is from January 17 to 18, 2015, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, in Florida.
