The new Gambling Act will enter into force by October 1st - UK
Online poker providers in the United Kingdom are to undergo change to their operations following the new online gambling legislation slating to enter into force by October 1st. Conscious of their business, many gaming operators including online casino platforms and online sports bookmakers are now rushing to comply with the new law, as required by the UK Gambling Commission. With this new Gambling Act, those gaming providers are to possess UK licenses to legally operate in the country. However, some decided to withdraw from UK gambling market due to the unexpected changes regarding local gambling regulations. And accordingly, they are white listed by the UK gambling commission until they have UK licenses in hand.
Actually, the UKs iPoker network is home to three online poker rooms: Mansion Poker, Winner and Titan. Winner and Titan have recently launched their brand new ".co.uk" sites while being on license in Antigua. As for Mansion, it announced it had to shut its doors down on September 15, 2014. Any way, numerous are the brands that are already entitled a full UK license such as PokerStars, 888 Poker, Unibet, Full Tilt
, and they are all expected to remain in the market. However, the new law would echo to UK players pockets with a 15% tax on all gross earnings. Paralleling this, operators will have to raise their prices for players. Tough as the new Gambling Act requirements are, they will negatively affect the number of online poker rooms in the United Kingdom. It is likely that many smaller-sized platforms will have no choice but withdrawing from the market.
