Florida: A hope about the legalization of online poker
In last February 10th, the members of the Florida Senate Gaming Committee (FSGC) met to discuss about the bill concerning gambling, which will be presented during the 2014 legislative session. Let us note that last year, Florida asked a business consultancy to establish a report concerning the industry of online gaming, for a budget of $400,000. During this meeting, the legislators have got for mission to develop a more suitable version of the bill, while considering the data presented in this report. The president of the committee, the Senator Richter made a small report of this debate. He revealed some very important points, beginning with the creation of a committee which will take charge of the regulation of all shapes of gambling in the State of Florida, except the lottery.
According to the Senator Richter, the bill stipulates also the integration of the Division mutual sports betting which is currently taking care of the regulation of poker rooms, casinos and operators of horserace within the new commission. During the meeting of February 10th, the senators have also examined the possibility to include in the bill a clause concerning the opening of the market of online poker in Florida. It brings a glimmer hope to enthusiasts of this game. However, itÂ’s important to mention that the opinions of the legislators are reserved concerning the legalization of this bill. Thus, some of them propose the organization of a referendum, letting to the public the privilege to decide on the future of the online poker in Florida. Let us note that the definitive version of the bill should be ready before February 24th. The legislative session will start in March 3rd.
