EPT Monte-Carlo 2013: Max Altergott wins the Super High Roller
After two days of competition at the Sporting Club Monte-Carlo for the Super High Roller tournament of the European Poker Tour Grand Final, the final table started on Wednesday with the seven survivors of the poker tournament. Jason Mercier started the day as chipleader, with the double of his nearest pursuer chips, Vladimir Troyanovsky, with 2,150,000 chips against 4,165,100 for Mercier. But at the end of the day, the German Max Altergott won this event of 100,000 buy-in, after a heads up with the chipleader of the final table. The day began with the elimination of Mike Watson following an all in by Sorel Mizzi. First eliminated at this final table, Watson pocketed 218,300. Scott Seiver ( 266,900) was the next in front of Jason Mercier who totalized up to 5.1 million chips following this hand.
Sorel Mizzi took care of the case of Vladimir Troyanovsky (5th, 339,500) while Max Altergott eliminates Timothy Adams who left the table with 485,100 for his 4th place. But the performance of Max Altergott subsequently forced Sorel Mizzi. The latter pocketed all the same, for his position at the second step of the podium. The heads up opposed Max Altergott to Jason Mercier. Altergott was widely in the lead with 7.3 million of chips against 5.1 million for his opponent. Mercier succeeded to reverse the trend in a certain moment of the duel but finally bowed face to Max Altergott. The latter received 1,746,400 and thus succeeds to Justin Bonomo for the Super High Roller title. Runner-up of the tournament, Jason Mercier left Monte-Carlo and its poker room with 1,115,700.
