Spain: The tax administration does not lack ideas for tracking players
As Spain is in crisis at the moment, it is quite normal if the tax administration is trying all means to earn more money. Moreover, the gains of online poker and poker played in live are subject to income tax. The case of the "Agencia Tributaria", the Spanish tax authorities, using the Hendon Mob databases to track all earnings of Spanish players and see if their tax returns correspond to their gains in live is a novelty in the world of poker. Certainly, the local administration does not hunt those who are supposed to have received large gains in poker but it must however recognize that this method seems very effective.
The Agencia Tributaria began to investigate the world of live poker tournaments. And the interestingly thing is that it is by Raul Mestre which is one of the players involved and also one of the owners of the site that the investigation began. The Spanish Treasury called the Hacienda has thus already contacted three Spanish players with the biggest gains at this list of 3,000 familiar faces globally. Carlos Mortensenn, Raul Paez Corral and Leo Margets are these players. In the land of bullfights, poker winnings are indeed subject to income tax.
