Event # 31: Carter Phillips takes his revenge on Joe Cada
Only 19 players on the starting 331 qualified for the final day of the No-Limit Hold'em of $ 1,500 buy-in, Event # 31 of the WSOP 2012. Joe Cada, seeking a second WSOP bracelet after winning the Main Event 2009, was on the way for a new bracelet with a stack of 720,000 chips, the shortstack before the start of the final table. But Cada fails after a head's up against Carter Phillips and lost all chances to carve his name on a new WSOP bracelet. The head's up lasted just over two hours with a large lead for Cada who started this duel with a stack of 8.9 million against 3.7 million for Carter Phillips. But Joe Cada lost most of his stack a few hands later. Phillips took the lead with 7.73 million against 4.87 million chips for his opponent.
Carter Phillips as winner of this duel cashed $ 664,130 and the gold bracelet designed for the winner, his first in the WSOP. Joe Cada lost his chance to make a double and should settle only for a gain of $ 412,424 for his runner up place, even if it was the best poker player of the WSOP, two years ago. Phillips took his revenge after his elimination in the 12th place by Cada at the $ 25,000 High Roller of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure 2010. Tom Chambers, the chipleader at the final table with 2,575,000 chips, was eliminated in the third place and pocketed $ 290,875.
