Gianni Giaroni: Death of the Italian poker player pioneer
Usually discrete character as an avid practitioner of card playing during his lifetime, the Italian Gianni Giaroni was one of the first professional poker players of the Squadra Azura. Born in 1940 in the town of Ferrara, in Emilia Romagna, this aged poker player passed away last weekend at the hospital of Bologna, his adopted hometown at the age of 70 years. A serious illness that affected him for one month prior to his disappearance. Adored by the public, Gianni Giaroni became familiar with the European poker circuit since 2007.
66 years old at that time, the name of one of the top professional poker player in Italy, who has not yet the likeness of celebrity of poker discipline is usually accompanied by his solid reputation as keyhole, his own style of play. During the course of the last four years of his life, Giaroni pocketed a sum surrounding a million dollars in earnings during the various international tournaments in which he participated. For the performance side, he was ranked among others, third in the final table of the Main Event of the Partouche Poker Tour and 10th in the European Poker Tour San Remo 2009 edition, three times runner-up of the EPT circuit including the step of Berlin, San Remo and Monte Carlo and he was also among the finalists of the High Roller of the World Poker Tour Grand Prix de Paris of the year 2010.
