WPT LA Poker Classic: A boxer wins the Celebrity Invitational
The boxer Leron Washington was able to stand out at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Celebrity Invitational and he dominated the final table. Some of us may ask how a little-known boxer was able to recover from a beautiful field of poker celebrities and Hollywood stars ? Washington won his place by playing in one of the qualifying tournaments online. Despite the loss of some players at the North American Poker Tour (NAPT) in Las Vegas, the Invitational tournament has attracted a large field of 567 players. Some big names have come down to the final table, but others less fortunate like Ricki Lake (18th), Marlon Wayans (17th) and Matt Brady (16th) have failed at the door of that coveted table.
Most players who came for fun probably would have been glad to take in the scene, snapping photos with their favourite players, but Washington had another plan in mind. He came there to win, he won $100,000 price, the wrist watch and a commemorative seat in the WPT Championship Event at Bellagio in Las Vegas scheduled in the coming months. For this final table, the top six players are all guaranteed a payment of at least $ 5,000 and the competition was intense, as each player had nearly the same size stack of chips. Leron was faced with players like Sean Urban, Steve Elliot, Hansen and Neev Baram.
