During the six weeks that the WSOP convened at the Rio, "game usage" a gauge of efficiency based partially on the ratio of games played, demonstrated that the casino benefited from the WSOP, and not just for poker. UK betting and gaming company William Hill announced the company's official foray into major tournament poker, with its forthcoming 'William Hill Grand Prix' poker tournament. The 'William Hill Grand Prix' will boast a prize pool of at least £450,000 ($777,671), including a top prize of £150,000 ($259,240).

SkyCity Adelaide, a casino in South Australia, is reintroducing poker following a four year hiatus from the game. Citing waning popularity as the motivation for shutting out poker games in 2001, the casino has rethought this move after poker's worldwide renaissance over the past couple of years.

All World Poker Supplies, the poker retail division of Denver-based GetStuffNow.net, announced the availability of new full-sized hold'em poker tables. The other investors allegedly involved in the bid remained anonymous and no terms, aside from price, were released regarding the bid.

WSOP fans will only be able to access broadcasts at the Gaming Club's online poker room.

The Prima Network of Microgaming-powered online poker sites recently announced that it has added three new online poker rooms to its list of partner sites. "Chicago Sam" Petrillo, one of the top players from the early days of the World Series of Poker (WSOP), recently passed away in his Las Vegas home at the age of 68. In the years 1979 and 1981, Petrillo made it to the WSOP's final tables, and built a name for himself as one of the top professional poker players of his time. He has been accredited with being one of the figures who helped boost poker's popularity over the years.
