Chili brought an end to Spains reign - Brazil World Cup 2014
Spain is eliminated from the Football World Cup 2014. Its departure marks the end of a six years long international career, including the South Africa World Cup 2010 and two European championship titles. Indeed, Chili brought an end to Rojas reign by a score of 2-0 at Maracana-Rio de Janeiro Stadium. Spain began the competition with a huge 5-1 defeat by Netherlands on the back. While football enthusiasts along with sports betting fans expected a great revival of Spain in this second game, the reigning champion was far from it. This is the first clash in which Spain fell to Chili over their 11 meetings. This south-American team beat Spain in the worst scenario ever: elimination at the first hurdle, just like what had experienced Brazil in 1966, France in 2002 and Italy in 2010.
On the ground, Vargas opened the score at 25 minutes of play thanks to Aranguizs quick clearance. The latter added another one two minutes before half-time (43th). The Roja was quite helpless despite Del Bosques guidelines facing a sharp, confident and highly determined Chili. As Chili now gets their tickets to final 8, they will play a game of challenge on Monday 23 June against Netherlands to secure No.1 in Group B. The prize at stake in this game is quite important because Vargas and his teammates will be facing the No.1 team in Group A. In fact, they have to win this meeting otherwise they lose in case they bow to Netherlands A draw too wont be favorable for them. As for Brazil, they provisionally secures first place in Group B. All bets are off at this moment on online sports betting sites.
