No more stop in Deauville - EPT
Frances poker world has just been struck by an apocalyptic thunder. The European Poker Tour (EPT) will no longer include the whole France in its schedule. While it was just a rumour a few months ago, the information has officially been confirmed by the Barrière Group. Since 2005, Deauville has played host to an EPT event. Evidence is that the partnership between Barrières and the EPT was fading over the years starting with the last-minute cancellation of the EPT Deauville Season 3. The EPT even decided not to make a stop in Deauville the following season. In 2009, the two gambling giants joined hands again to relaunch the event which has almost become routine for poker enthusiasts in France since then.
While the 2015 EPT Deauville has recently been concluded with Bulgarias Ognyan Dimov winning the top prize, the partnership to run the same event is no longer on the agenda. Eric Cavillon, the Executive Director for casinos at Groupe Lucien Barrière, confirmed the same hypothesis for the year 2016. Over the past three years, the French poker hub has not been profitable, from the WSOP Europe and the WPT Paris, to the Partouche Poker Tour and the European Poker Tour. National circuits such as France Poker Series have tried their best to keep the pace while enabling enthusiasts to enjoy the atmosphere of a live poker tournament. In fact, France has been erased from the EPT schedule due to a number of tough reasons, including its binding regulation, higher taxes, the fact that only Poker Hold'Em and Omaha are the two variants of poker to gamble on, and especially Deauville itself and its relatively uninteresting setting compared to Malta, Barcelona and Prague.
