GPI: Jason Mercier remains the leader, Joseph Cheong in the 2nd place
The Global Poker Index (GPI) is the poker database the most complete, since its acquisition in last July of The Hendon Mob. At the last updates of August 6th, the GPI registered a large number of changes as well in the Top 10 as in the rest of the classification of the 300 best worldwide poker players. Jason remains at the head of the ranking, but Philipp Gruissem let the second place to Joseph Cheong. Daniel Negreanu (+3) goes back up on the podium, after a few weeks passed in the oversight. Michael Watson wins also three places and occupies the 4th place, before Ole Schemion (-1) and Marvin Rettenmaier (-3). Philipp Gruissem lost five places this week and slips back to the 7th place, just before Bertrand Grospellier, Igor Kurganov and Stephen O'Dwyer, to end the Top 10.
The other players of the Top 20 keep their ranking of last week. Andrew Lichtenberger clings to his 11th position, just ahead Paul Volpe, David Sands, Bryn Kenney, Chris Klodnicki, Dan Smith, Justin Bonomo, Sorel Mizzi, Toby Lewis and Daniel Shak. The week was animated for some players such as Micah Raskin, David Rheem, Fabrice Soulier and Elio Fox, who have lost numerous places in the classification. Elio Fox lost 61 places and fell in the 218th position of the GPI. The WPT Merit Cyprus Classic of the week will surely have an important impact on the classification of this week. In fact, this poker tournament is among the events considered for the GPI ranking. This inaugural event of the Season XII of the World Poker Tour will take place, as a reminder, at the Merit Crystal Cove Hotel & Casino of Cyprus, from August 16th to 21th.
